These are our suggestions on where to go in San
Francisco. We also recommend exploring the diverse neighbourhoods.
You
can do a lot in San Francisco, from sightseeing to partying to eating into walking tour San Francisco .
Marina District
Mediterranean-style
villas are surrounded by yachts on a sailing greensward. The Bay is also home
to the marina, where kites fly, dogs play and wealthy locals run. A lake is home to swans. Just a short
walk away are the Civil War-era Fort Point National Historic Site & Fort
Mason Centre. Here you will find the famous vegetarian Greens restaurant, art
galleries and marketplaces outside.
North Beach
Saints
Peter and Paul Church guard Columbus Avenue's delicatessens, pizzerias, coffee
houses, bakeries, and Washington Square. Cafe Trieste offers cappuccinos, focaccia and
the passing scene, while "Beat Generation” writers are honoured at City
Lights Bookstore, Vesuvius Cafe, Jack Kerouac Alley's mural-adorned Vesuvius
Cafe. Cabarets and a few strip joints round out the
evening, along with the hideous, long-running, musical review "Beach
Blanket Babylon", which adds to the fun.
China Town
The
Gate of the Dragon is guarded by carved dogs that emit fresh scents of tea,
fish, and medicinal herbs. Since 1850s,
Grant Avenue has been lined with red and gold pagodas and trading emporiums.
Small grocery stores, eateries, and small grocery shops have also lined the
avenue. In the alleyways, you'll find fortune cookie factories, kite shops and
the circa-1920 Tim How Temple. This temple is a collection of altars, incense,
and carvings representing the Goddess of Seven Seas. The American
Chinese Historical Society of the Chinese Cultural Centre displays art and
culture from the past.
The
Hang Ah Tea Room, which is lit by lanterns, serves traditional dim sum
dumplings. Bunches love to pound cymbals and burst
firecrackers.
